A friend of mine, after watching Charles Barkley fight cue cards and his own speech pattern in a hilariously bad episode of Saturday Night Live, made this following comment: “I think this episode of SNL could have used at least 5 minutes of me playing “Barkley Shut Up And Jam!” from when I was a kid.” To which, using my vast knowledge of things that shouldn’t exist, I offered up the Wikipedia page for the game’s pseudo-sequel Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden.

While I have yet to spend any meaningful time with the first title in the “Hoopz Barkley SaGa,” an inclusion that makes this an almost certain candidate for induction into some sort of Kusoge hall of fame, I have always been fascinated by its existence.  The Wikipedia post for the game is about as quote worthy as humanly possible, and include gems such as:

“In 2053, another Chaos Dunk is performed in Manhattan, killing millions. Barkley is blamed for the Chaos Dunk and is hunted by the B-Ball Removal Department, led by Michael Jordan.”

“This ball was so powerful that a janitor who mishandled it inadvertently performed a Chaos Dunk in the building years ago. With the Hell B-Ball in hand, the party seek out BLOODMOSES.”

If you need any further reason to check out this free downloadable PC title, here is the game’s official trailer which details some of the lunacy that is sure to carry throughout the turn based role playing game.

Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden’s developer, Tales of Games Studios, has been relatively quiet since releasing the downloadable title, but here’s to hoping that a Part 2 is sitting somewhere in the back of their minds.
